Unfinished Tolkien book finished

Speaking of Tolkien, here’s some good news for those who will read anything the Professor ever wrote. A new unfinished work will be published in book form next year.

Christopher Tolkien has spent the past 30 years working on “The Children of Hurin,” an epic tale his father began in 1918 and later abandoned. Excerpts of “The Children of Hurin,” which includes the elves and dwarves of Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” and other works, have been published before.

They’re probably referring to a version of the story in the multi-volume “History of Middle Earth”, but that is a draft form of the story and incomplete.

I suppose this will be akin to “Unfinished Tales.” Regardless, I know I’ll be buying it like I bought everything else the Professor ever wrote on Middle Earth. Can’t wait.

  • My guess—and it’s only a guess—is that it’s more of a narrative like The Lord of the Rings and not an exposition like The Silmarillion. I also suspect it’s much longer and perhaps at a very different stage of development of the mythology.
