Thousands flock to pray before relic

A relic of St. John Vianney, Cure of Ars, was recently in Boston at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, St. John’s Seminary, and St. Mary Parish in Waltham.

At St. Mary’s alone, 5,000 people came to pray before the relic, the saint’s heart. People who were there last Friday told me the line to get into the church was hours long and that the people who stood in it were calm and prayerful, even praying the Rosary as a large group several times.

It’s good to hear about good events in the Archdiocese like this.

  • My husband and I went to see the heart of of St. John Vianney when it was displayed on Long Island, New York.

We found the same long lines and the same peaceful, meditative attitude.

I admit that I did somewhat resent the intrusion into this peaceful crowd by a CNN camerman, pushing his way to the front in order to obtain his pictures.

I hope that by the time the relic appeared in Boston, the media attention had declined.

  • That’s a wonderful idea, Deacon Bresnahan.

I was there on Saturday, at the Cathedral.  It hadn’t dawned on me that they would be touching objects to the reliquary.  Luckily, I had my rosary in my purse.

      cool smile
