Pope Benedict’s encyclical, contrary to earlier reports, now looks like it will be released in early January. While earlier most sources said it had been signed on the feast of the Immaculate Conception, now they’re saying it was signed on Christmas. It is entitled, in English, “God is Love,” quoting the Gospel of John.
The text, according to inside Vatican sources, is a meditation on the indispensable role of Jesus Christ in the plan of salvation. The Pope’s presentation, reflecting his training as a theologian, also discusses how divine love shapes, and is reflected by, the charitable work of the Christian community.
