It’s a boy!

It’s a boy!

We’re going to be having a boy in July and his name is Benedict Joseph Bettinelli.

After a few fits and starts—including Melanie misremembering last week’s appointment as an ultrasound appointment—we finally got the news we’ve been awaiting so we could put a name to our child. We knew within a minute of starting the process. “Oh my,” said the ultrasound technician. Oh my, indeed. There was no doubt.

The boy is named after his maternal grandfather, whose middle name is Benedict. (He doesn’t favor his first name as much.) The fact that the current Pontiff is also Benedict and Joseph doesn’t hurt. We are dyed-in-the-wool Papists after all.

So now we wait until mid-July for my boy—my boy—to arrive.

  • Dom – it’s been a while since I checked in, and when I signed up for Twitter saw your message, “It’s a boy”.

I thought he was already here!!!

I don’t know if you have it at your parish, but at mine, the parish priests have a special blessing they do over all expectant mothers following Masses once monthly.  I think it is on the first Sunday of the Month.

It’s a beautiful thing to see all the expectant mothers kneeling at the railing and Father, dressed in cassock & surplice, with stole, sprinkling them with water from the holy water pot and praying.

Prayers for a safe pregnancy and delivery.

  • Congratulations!  Boys are wonderful!  I have 2;if I am blessed with a 3rd, I’d like to name him Joseph Benedetto!  So, “love, love, love” your name choice for ‘your boy’!  Enjoy!

  • Fr Benedict Groeschel’s name in religion is Benedict Joseph from Benedict Joseph Labre a homeless man with a mental illness who had a great devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.

  • Congratulations on the little man. What an awesome name! As the mom to a boy, they are a lot more fun than I ever imagined possible. I always pictured myself as a mom to girls.
