Fisking James Carroll… again

Deconstructing the heterodox rantings of James Carroll—former priest, dissenter, Thinking Catholic(tm), and Boston Globe op-ed columnist—is like shooting fish in a barrel, yet no one does it in a more entertaining manner nor more completely than Dale Price.

This time, Carroll’s on about religious fundamentalism and not the kind that blows up buildings with thousands of people in them. No, the really dangerous fundamentalism is the one that says that we should respect life at all stages.

I’m especially entertained by Dale’s observation that when Carroll uses the introduction to a purely advisory Vatican document on biblical hermeneutics to take down Pope Benedict’s apostolic exhortation on the Eucharist, he apparently doesn’t realize they were both written by the same man.
