Appeal for help one more time

Appeal for help one more time

Here’s the latest news from Bettnet Nation (I just made that up, but I like it). It looks like we’re moving to a resolution of the employment situation, for which I’m grateful since we’re also coming up on the one-year anniversary of my separation from my old job. I’ve had some freelance and short-term contract work in the interim, but I’m looking forward to some more security.

Unfortunately, we’ve also received more bad news. Our landlords are selling the condo we’re living in so now we have to find a new place to live. I don’t think with me starting a new job that we’ll qualify for a mortgage so I think we’ll have to find a new apartment. We may stay in Salem or move toward the south of Boston near where my brothers live and where I grew up.

Also, we’re feeling the pinch of all the medical bills from Melanie’s cancer scare. Apparently insurance didn’t cover everything, which I wish I had known would be the case. (I’ll save my rant about the impenetrable morass of medical insurance regulations for later.) With having to pay for a move and these bills (those total over $1,000 by themselves) and coming nearly to the end of our financial resources, I’m thinking it’s time for another Bettnet subscription drive.

The last time I did this was back in the fall and so many of you were very generous. Quite a few of you set up monthly subscriptions, most of which are still running, and for that I am very grateful.

However, if you’re a new reader or weren’t able to subscribe last fall or would just like to make a one-time donation to help us pay off Melanie’s medical bills, could you please click on one of the buttons at the right side of this page and make a donation however large or small you could afford? We’re grateful for whatever help you can provide.

In any case, I thank you both for your patronage of the blog and for whatever support you can give. Thank you.

  • I would strongly suggest not buying anything right now, even if you are offered a mortgage.  Thehousingbubbleblog.com is a good and very informative blog that pulls together market information from across the country.  There are lots of tin-foil hat wearers that comment there, but the blog is must-reading for first-time home buyers.

  • I’ll check out the blog, but at least in this area, it appears the bubble has burst. Our landlords are selling because they put a lowball bid on a house and got it right away, much to their surprise.

  • Dom,

As a former patient accounts manager for a large hospital, please make sure to go over those non covered charges carefully. Many times it is noncovered because the hospital or insurance company messed up something in the processing.  I know this from lots of experience smile

You and your family are in my daily prayers.
