The butcher’s bill in Ireland

After a secret report leaked to the press, the Archdiocese of Dublin released a report on how much money has been paid and how many priests have been accused in the Scandal. The statistics carry a tally back to 1940. In that time 2,800 priests have served the archdiocese, and 102 of them have had credible accusations of abuse made against them. About 350 victims have been deemed credible, while another 40 have not yet been verified.

The report also says that about $7 million has been paid in settlement and legal fees, a mere pittance compared to the more than $85 million paid out in Boston.
