Who’s the one imposing?

Even as they tried to impose their radical views on society, a liberal religious coalition attacked the Catholic Church for imposing its views on society.

“What right has the Archdiocese (of Boston) to attempt to impose a Catholic definition of marriage upon the civil polity?’’ Rabbi Ronne Friedman of Boston’s Temple Israel said.

Excuse me, Rabbi, but it’s not the Catholic definition of marriage. It is the constant and age-old definition of marriage from time immemorial. Take a look in your Torah, you know, that dusty old scroll locked away somewhere in your synagogue somewhere. Turn to the very beginning, and read Genesis. Yep, it’s right there. Oh, and while you’re at it, you might try re-reading the sections on Sodom and Gommorah, and the relevant parts in Deuteronomy and Leviticus.

Meanwhile, Sr. Rosemary Brennan of the Sisters of St. Joseph lent her voice of support to the cause of gay marriage. Archbishop O’Malley, call your office! I think there’s another religious order to be suppressed. Really, would we be any worse off if 80 percent of the religious orders in this country were simply suppressed?
