Who said it?

Who said it?

Which politician said the following in an interview with a newspaper reporter?

“It’s a tragic day in the lives of everybody when abortion is looked on as an alternative to birth control or as an alternative to having a child. I think that’s wrong. It should be the very last thing if it has to be anything, and I say that not just because I’m opposed to abortion but because I think that’s common sense. ... I think the question of abortion is one that should be left for the states to decide.

  • Todd,

There are other standards than the Roman Missal, aren’t there?  My point being that one can use most any text to substantiate one’s position.  I’ve heard that even the devil quotes Scripture, after all.

I’ll nibble a little further:  and the point of the anecdote about the bishop confronted by the grade school feminist is…. ?

  • Todd,

I’m merely asking for clarification, precisely because I do not want to put words in your mouth.  You’re the one who keeps dropping “clever” anecdotes which seem to indicate some further agenda.  Again, if I am offending you by asking questions and making manifest my concern, I apologize profusely.  I’m not trying to be cute or clever here, but it would seem by your anecdote, that you want to say something.  I just wish you’d come and say it rather than this coy little dance with which you seek both to entertain us and enlighten us.  You drop these little comments and then go back and forth from tee-heeing to tsk-tsking.  You bring it up, and then seem to resent having to explain why you brought it up, and insinuate that my asking questions about the anecdote has an agenda behind it.  You mean you didn’t have an agenda when you gave the anecdote in the first place?  To paraphrase the Queen Mother in Hamlet, “Methinks you protesteth too much.”

    Todd,

OK, Todd, I’ll bite:  what’s your point?  That ultimately the teacher is justified in referring to the consecrated host merely as bread, and the precious Blood as wine?
