Here is more evidence of how the loca Boston media end up distorting the church closing story. From Thursday’s Boston Herald:
On Tuesday, the archbishop reversed his decision to close St. Kateri Tekawitha in Plymouth and gave four Newton parishes - St. Bernard’s, Corpus Christi, St. Philip Neri and Mary Immaculate of Lourdes - a one-year reprieve.
No, that’s not what happened. St. Philip Neri and Corpus Christi did not get “a one-year reprieve” because they were never on the list of parishes to be closed to begin with. Instead, they were each paired with a previously designated parish and now they’ll have to decide among themselves which of each pair is going to close. In the quest to make it short, the article ends up getting it wrong.
Dear Dom,
You probably ought to put a [sic] after St. in St. Kateri Tekakwitha, as well as one after the surname. One, she is not yet canonized, unless I missed something. Two, Her surname is misspelled.
Thus two errors by the reporter, not just the one.
Yes, as I imagine you copied and pasted this bit.
