I tried to go out to run an errand and promptly got stuck in a snowbank. Some guy in an all-wheel drive Subaru parked in the middle of the road and I made a bad split-second decision to try to go around rather than back up. Whump! I called my brother-in-law Pete who came down to help and then the United Nations showed up as well—a Dominican couple and two Eastern European guys—but I was well and truly stuck until I thought to turn off traction control. That finally did it and I returned right home—almost getting stuck again—and have resolved not to go out again until March or the snow melts, whichever one comes first.
And my next vehicle will be a four-wheel drive truck.
Are chains something you can put on and take off at will? If so, I may have to invest in a set, even though I’ve never needed them before.
