n Washington, the “pro-choice” movement is busy generating support for the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women. The US is one of the few countries that has not yet ratified CEDAW, fearing that the treaty will be used—indeed has already been used—to coerce small countries to legalize abortion. The CEDAW treaty itself is silent on abortion, but the UN committee enforcing the treaty has told 37 countries that they must lift restrictions on abortion. The CEDAW treaty has also directed governments to legalize prostition! C-FAM is organizing a petition drive to stop US ratification of this treaty.
