Salem’s closing parishes

Salem’s closing parishes

Both of the parishes that are closing in Salem were in the news over the weekend. St. Thomas the Apostle Parish is filing an appeal with the archdiocese, like every other parish has, claiming that the archbishop didn’t have all the details. They claim to have the only children’s liturgy in Salem, which isn’t true, because I know that at least Immaculate Conception has one.

  • We didn’t have kids’ Masses where I lived… in the 70s or 80s.  I would think that hundreds of years without children’s liturgies would indicate that they aren’t necessary in a diocese.

  • Even if it were true, Dom, it’s a fatuous argument.  They can’t seriously claim that one particular church building is somehow better suited to celebrating the Mass “for children” than is another.
