Reviewing the past year

A New York Times article today surveys the landscape of the Church ahead of the US bishops’ meeting next week. There are points in there I agree with and disagree with. As usual, VOTF is treated as something more important that it is—they asked to be consulted by the Vatican on the appointment of a new archbishop of Philadelphia. But it also shows how some bishops are still in crisis response mode.

  • “To be put it simply, they may have made some progress in the past 18 months, but there obedience. You definitely wouldn’t get that reaction from VOTF or their brethren.
