A New York Times article today surveys the landscape of the Church ahead of the US bishops’ meeting next week. There are points in there I agree with and disagree with. As usual, VOTF is treated as something more important that it is—they asked to be consulted by the Vatican on the appointment of a new archbishop of Philadelphia. But it also shows how some bishops are still in crisis response mode.
“To be put it simply, they may have made some progress in the past 18 months, but there obedience. You definitely wouldn’t get that reaction from VOTF or their brethren.
