Here’s the latest on the future appointment of a prefect for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. But first, some caveats. These are still rumors and as the rumor mill heats up, it becames more difficult to separate truth from fiction.
But what I’ve heard over the past 24 hours is that the appointment is set to be announced on or about June 1 so that the lack of an announcement so far is no indication of the veracity of what we’ve heard.
Second, the buzz out of the Archdiocese of San Francisco is that Archbishop Levada has been dismissive of the rumors, that every time a new story about it comes out, someone in his office shows it to him, and he laughs dismissively. Is he keeping a papal secret or is he truly saying it isn’t happening? Good question.
I can’t imagine how people will react when Cardinal McCarrick retires this summer. And I thought Boston Red Sox fans second-guessing the team’s manager was the worst-kind of armchair managing. Catholics are even worse.
Dom, obviously the Pope is putting off this appointment because he is weak-minded and can’t decide what to do! He must *really* be controlled by the liberals! Or – maybe the Masons! Or both! And, and, the Bilderbergers and the EU secretariat and the Council on Foreign Relations and the Pentaveret and . . .
Reuters and AP are both reporting that the Pope has just officially appointed Levada.
Apparently, it’s a done deed. Here is the first headline on yahoo news; there were others that followed:
