OK to be gay at Boston College

Surprise, surprise. Boston College is becoming gay friendly. It’s funny how it works. When the legitimate Church authority requests BC to adhere to Church teaching, they bleat about academic freedom and integrity. But a bunch of snot-nosed college kids with delusions of grandeur and maturity pressure them, they fold like handerkchiefs in a Chinese laundry.

In March, nearly 84 percent of BC’s 4,000 undergraduates backed a referendum in student elections calling for sexual orientation to be included in the university’s nondiscrimination statement, which covers hiring and admissions.

The new language, pending more internal review, will say BC “commits itself to maintaining a welcoming environment for all people and extends its welcome in particular to those who may be vulnerable to discrimination on the bases of their race ... religion, color, age ... or sexual orientation.”

The revised policy also says the school will comply with anti-discrimination laws, “while reserving its lawful rights where appropriate to take actions designed to promote the Jesuit Catholic principles that sustain its mission and heritage.”

Considering how well Jesuits embrace “diversity” (Cf. the California Province web site and its depictions of costume-clad religious, including one titled, for example, “Jabba the Slut”) and you’ll get the picture that those Jesuit Catholic principles won’t put up much of a fight.
