Must not offend Muslim sensibilities

The thing I hate about political correctness is not so much the concern for giving offense (although that can be bad enough), but the attempt to change history or pretend reality is different than it is, like “Big Brother” in George Orwell’s “1984”.

With that I present to you this story about plans to remove a statue of St James defeating the Moors (i.e. Muslims) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. It seems they want to emphasize a kinder, gentler St. James. Of course, we will conveniently forget that St. James appeared to Christian knights fighting the Moorish army in 844 and they responded, “St. James, we will reconquer Spain.”

Why don’t they just get it over with, apologize to the Muslims, and return the whole country to them? They claim that this decision has nothing to do with 3/11 or 9/11, but can it give any other impression? Instead, they say that they are doing it to avoid upsetting the “sensitivities of other ethnic groups.”

  • When you become afraid to give offense, you become unable to love.  For the truth is necessary to love, and the truth often offends.  Spain thinks by hiding uncomfortable truths, it will be able to get along with ‘everyone.’  Hundreds of innocent dead commuters says otherwise.

  • Spain will unquestionably be the first of the United Muslim States of Europe.

  • Here’s the funny thing.  Muslims were ultimately unable to take Europe by force.  Now they’re taking Europe by getting Europeans to feel guilty about not having let them take Europe by force.  The communists should tell everyone in Europe that they are ‘offended…’
