More Protestants celebrate Lent

More and more Evangelicals are discovering rituals and symbolism and liturgical worship and are celebrating Lent and Advent. While, there may still be some residual anti-Catholic sentiment among some Protestants, especially among Baptists, they’re starting to find we all have more in common than they thought.

Bratcher said many Protestants now find they have more in common with Catholics than they do with the culture at large, because the culture is increasingly secular.

What’s striking about this is that it has nothing to do with bishops’ commissions or ecumenical dialogues. Instead, it is the witness of individual Catholics and parishes living their lives according to the rituals and traditions of the Church, that is most responsible. I say welcome them with open arms and then tell them that if they want to buy the steering wheel, they should really check out the whole car.

  • Gee I think someone forgot to tell the rest of the Baptist here that they are so much like us. I’m glad it’s finally starting to happen but seriously those of us here in OK have been talking ourselves blue in the face for years just trying to get the Baptist among others to perceive us as more than idol-worshipers and my personal peeve “bead-counters”, They never wanted to believe that they had so much in common with us before, go figure. I’m glad it’s starting though and may be with time they will buy the “whole car”.
