Kerry the car

Kerry the car

The New York Times has picked up the Kerry excommunication story and I find the statement from his spokesman notable:

A spokesman for Mr. Kerry, Michael Meehan, would say only: “Kerry’s a Catholic who attends Mass regularly and receives communion. That explains his standing in the church.”

An interesting understanding of what it means to be Catholic. Someone once told me that going to Mass no more makes you Catholic than standing in your garage makes you a car.

  • That’s a good question.  I believe that he served as an altar boy for a few months, then denounced his altar boy-ship, threw his altar boy medals away and became an anti-altar boy protester.

On the other hand, maybe the medals he threw away weren’t his after all.

Apparently he has since changed his mind, and now claims that his experience as an altar boy qualifies him to be Pope.
