Freedom from religion

We’re getting closer to the day when any statement by an official of a religious organization on any public policy matter will result in legal penalties or government sanctions. A Missouri lawyer has filed a complaint with the IRS against the Missouri Catholic Conference because it encouraged lawmakers to return political donations from a pro-embryonic stem cell political group.

Whatever happened to freedom of speech? Whatever happened to freedom of religion? The First Amendment was supposed to protect churches from the government, not to protect the government from churches. This is how twisted constitutional interpretation has become. The opposite of the intended outcome is now in effect.

How soon before priests and religious are not allowed to vote? How soon before any religious person isn’t? Don’t laugh. There was a time not long ago when no one believed we’d have such things as gay marriage or legalized abortion or that a disabled woman could be starved to death by court order.
