Finally, the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation is coming! The document, entitled “Sacramentum Caritatis,” will be released at the Vatican next Tuesday, March 13. This is the second major document of Pope Benedict’s pontificate and is the summary and conclusion of the Synod of Bishops which met in October 2005 on the topic of the Eucharist.
That synod concluded the Year of the Eucharist called by Pope John Paul II, but which he, of course, did not live to see finish. The theme of the synod was “Eucharist: Living Bread for Peace,” and the apostolic exhortation is the Pope’s reflections on the conclusions of the synod.
Apart from what the document itself might say, many people think that the exhortation will soon be followed by the widely expected and much rumored motu proprio that would allow wider use of the Tridentine Mass.
