I received the following email regarding my blog about Tariq Aziz. It typifies the liberal, self-apologizing, moral equivalence mindset which so predominates.
I understand that you are unhappy that “Saddam Hussein about the whether Aziz was just following orders in a bad regime doesn’t carry weight. The same argument was shot down during the Nuremberg trials. Those who represented the regime, even if they were not directly involved in war crimes, were complicit. Aziz was once deputy prime minister under Saddam. There is no way you can say he was not a vital and high-ranking member of the regime. He wasn’t its spokesman.
Any collaborators in the crimes of Saddam should be rooted out—including any Catholics. The Vatican should only be involved in providing excupatory evdience, if such exists.
I guess that’s ‘exculpatory’, yes? Exsculpatory???
