I’ve been having a hard time finding out what major units are actually involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Before 9/11 the Armed Forces would post the disposition of their forces on their web sites, but that doesn’t make sense in time of war, I guess.
I’ve been curious about what units are where. The only units I hear mentioned in Iraq are 3rd Infantry Division, 101st Air Assault, the 1st Marine Division (which I think has been reinforced by another Marine Brigade, a British Armored Brigade, and British marines). The 4th Infantry Division is waiting for its equipment to arrive on ships from Turkey.
Who am I missing? Is a brigade of the 82nd there? Any other divisions? The 1st Cavalry? 1st Armored?
One of the amazing things is that we are pressing this fight with so many fewer forces, especially at the division level.
