Cardinal Law met with Pope John Paul this week and some are speculating that it means he could get a new assignment. While such an meeting would be unusual, it’s by no means an indicator that something is afoot.
The cardinal is still a member of several very important Vatican congregations and he has met with the Pope privately since his resignation last December. And since he’s still a cardinal, it’s understandable he would spend a lot of time in Rome. It’s not like the case of Cardinal Groer of Austria who actually abused kids himself.
I get the sense from the Globe and its friends that they want to continue to punish Cardinal Law for his perceived failings, that he must never be and can never be rehabilitated.
