Someone has stolen the left hand that hold the keys from the statue of St. Peter in the Vatican basilica. This is the famous statue that pilgrims often reverence by kissing the extended foot. Here is a photo of the unmolested statue.
How someone could get away with the crime is disturbing to contemplate. With all the priceless art in the building, it shows how lax Vatican security really is.
Update: Apparently I had the wrong photo and the wrong statue. As someone pointed out in the comments, it is not this statue, but one in the grotto.
