Here’s an interesting story we’re following at Catholic World News. Pope John Paul considered skipping beatification and directly canonizing Mother Teresa in October. That would have been unprecedented in modern times, but it would clearly be in the Pope’s authority. I think the Pope really wants to be the one to canonize his friend Mother Teresa and knows he doesn’t have a whole lot of time left to do it. It would be fitting and beautiful for him to be the one.
