Rule of law? Who cares about the rule of law? If you can’t get a sympathetic judge to create new rights for you, just go ahead and make it up yourself. That’s the motto of San Francisco’s new mayor Gavin Newsom. He’s apparently decided that he likes the title of absolute monarch better and unilaterally decided that his city is going to start issuing marriage licenses to gay couples.
I hope the attorney general hauls his butt into court and he gets some nice jail time.
A conservative judge puts a copy of the Ten Commandments in his courtroom and all hell breaks loose (literally), with civil libertarians and liberals (but I repeat myself) venting their spleens about trampling the constitution. But when liberals defy several laws and begin creating new rights out of whole cloth, there’s nary a peep. What a bunch of hypocrites.
