Right at the deadline

Right at the deadline

After both Congress and Florida’s Legislature failed to pass laws to protect Terri Schiavo and others like her, Congress took the next bext step. It issued congressional subpoenas to Terri, Michael Schiavo, Bob & Mary Schindler, and Terri’s doctors. Those subpoenas make it a felony to interfere with a congressional witness and so Judge Greer has issued a temporary stay. All the details are in the story.

This is only temporary, but it’s a step in the right direction. Talk about waiting until the last minute.

Update:Greer has reinstated his execution order. Stay tuned.

  • Could Congress find Greer in contempt? Does separation of powers come into play here? The story of on-and-off has changed just between 1 and 2:30 pm today. C-SPAN is all over it. So are all the news channels. It’s like the whole world is watching.

    So is heaven.

  • I vote to ‘pull the plug’ on Judge Greer.  I’m sure he wouldn’t mind.  It’s his right, right?  If I were Greer I wouldn’t be able to show my face in public after this case.  Who would want to live like that?  No one should have to live that kind of life.  Besides, who’s going to pay for his nursing home care?  Surely he doesn’t want to burden us with that!  And he’s proven that is cortex is gone.

  • re: Greer

The Congress should subpoena him and interrogate him on his handling of the case.

  • Just in case anyone ever needed yet more proof that the Democratic party embodies the evil urges of our sad culture, this is it.

There is no time for a leisurely states-rights dispute.  Get the national guard in there and get that lady to her court date.

  • Greer already can’t show his face at his (former) Baptist church…

On Monday, Shock & Awe begins during the afternoon.  That’s when the House (and Senate) each pass resolutions affirming the subpoenas and then direct the Attorney General to take Greer to Federal Court.

This should be as riveting as the Clarence Thomas hearings…

  • I have been following Terri’s dilemma for a few months now and have prayed for her (and her “husband” and Judge Greer).  One major newspaper, I don’t recall which one, reported the news as, “She should be allowed to die, and not forced to live.”
