Refusing Communion

Apparently there are still places in the world where the sacredness of the Eucharist is still taken seriously. Parish priests in Ireland have announced that unmarried parents who are living together won’t be allowed to receive Communion with their children at First Communion. The priests are taking the correct stance, giving the parents the opportunity to get themselves right before God and the Church, while standing firm to let them know that they are endgandering themselves through gravely sinful acts. The ban is not an act of anger or intolerance, but one of love and concern, both for the parents and for others who know them, not the least of whom are their children.
