The AsiaNews Catholic service is reporting that a Chaldean Catholic priest kidnapped a month ago in Baghdad has been released. Fr. Saad Hanna Sirop was kidnapped by terrorists on August 15, the Feast of the Assumption, after Vespers at his church. He is 34 years old and was only ordained in 2001 and is head of the theological department at Babel College, the country’s Catholic college.
While some speculate that the reason for the kidnapping was to demand ransom, Archbishop Louis Sako of Kirkuk said the aim is to intimidate Christians and push them out of Iraq.
