Journalist nearly reaps fruits of stupidity

The harrowing account of one journalist who ignored common sense in search of the “big scoop.” The Newsweek journalist wasn’t embedded with the troops so he went freewheeling around the Iraqi desert in his own SUV. So he ended up getting shot at by Iraqis and having to be rescued by US troops. The story makes it seem like his pigheaded blundering exposed an ambush against a US convoy, but I have a feeling that it’s a bit of self-justification.

I looked to my right; there were more than a half-dozen men with guns racing toward my car. Just then the photographer came on the walkie-talkie and said in French, happens. I see you all Sunday night.
