Remember the news story from last week that said the Archdiocese of Boston would have a settlement offer for plaintiffs this week, before the self-imposed Friday deadline? Well, you can scratch that.
At this point, despite my dislike of the plaintiffs’ lawyers involved in this case, I wouldn’t blame them for chucking settlement talks and going straight to court. I place blame for this squarely on the back of the Archdiocese’s lawyers, the Rogers law firm. They have screwed one thing after another ever since this whole mess began and several Catholic lawyer friends tell me that most faithful Catholics in their profession can’t believe the incompetence they’re seeing. Why can’t they make this work?
