Boston Archbishop O’Malley’s first public Mass was at a Spanish Mass in a poor city that was also hit by the Scandal. The symbolism is undeniable and plays to his strengths. He is known as a champion for the poor and he made it clear in his installation Mass homily that he will remain focused on the downtrodden, even as he attempts to heal the wounds caused by the Scandal.
However, it seems he’s just as at ease among the wealthy as well. I’m not sure I like the tone of the article. It makes him seem insincere even as it makes the wealthy Catholics seem shallow. Everyone in the article comes across as two-dimensional.
