O’Malley hits the ground running

Archbishop O’Malley has hit the ground running. A day after his installation he has appointed a new leader for the archdiocese’s legal team. Thomas Hannigan, with whom O’Malley worked to clean up the mess in Fall River a decade ago, replaces the Wilson Rogers firm.

The Rogers firm has been panned by nearly everyone for its fumbling, bumbling way of handling the legal situation, including enough stupid moves to enrage every plaintiff, lawyer, and Catholic in the archdiocese several times over.

In another interesting move, O’Malley has moved Bishop Lennon, the former apostolic administrator, to vicar general and moderator of the curia, and Bishop Walter Edyvean, who was vicar general, to bishop for the west region of the arhdiocese, an area that includes the heart of Voice of the Faithful territory. We’ll have to see whether there’s any symbolic significance to those moves.
