John Allen assesses the reasoning behind Bishop Sean O’Malley’s appointment to Boston. I have to say that despite being in a story in the National Catholic Reporter, I agree with his points: O’Malley is seen as someone who fixes things with regard to the Scandal; he is known in Boston from his time in Fall River and has built up good will because of it; and he has a style that is different enough from Cardinal Law that it may give him a headstart in dealing with the various problems here.
