No zero tolerance here

Stephen Brady of Roman Catholic Faithful has been keeping a close eye on Scandal-related activities in the Midwest and his latest case involves a priest who had been convicted of possessing child porn and served jail time who is now the head of the diaconate program for Evansville, Indiana. (click on the link below to read the entire article.)

It boggles my mind that a parishioner would excuse the priest’s actions by saying this: “There weren’t any children crying to their parents…. Father Jean was hurting himself, he was hurting his ministry. He wasn’t hurting anyone else.” Wrong! By paying someone else for child porn and by patronizing it, he was encouraging the creation of such material. That’s why the mere possession of it is a crime. But beyond that it is a grave sin that shows a serious defect in the man, and thus in his ministry. There’s no way that a priest who owns dozens of child porn videotapes isn’t hurting anyone else, at least spiritually. Read the whole thing.
