News on Fr. Groeschel

The local newspapers in New York have begun to cover Fr. Groeschel’s situation. There are a few more details about the accident, but not much more about his prognosis.

Groeschel was in Orlando to give a retreat for priests when he was hit just before 10 p.m. Sunday while crossing a busy roadway just north of Orlando International Airport. Sgt. Brian Gilliam of the Orlando Police Department said yesterday that Groeschel apparently stepped out from in front of a stopped bus and was not seen by the driver of an approaching car.

Groeschel was thrown onto the car’s hood and then the roadway, Gilliam said. No charges are pending, he said.

Joe Brown, a spokesman for Orlando Regional Medical Center, where Groeschel is being treated, said the priest’s condition is likely to remain critical at least through today.
