Father John Farren, O.P., was named this week as the new rector of the Archdiocese of Boston’s St. John’s Seminary. I have been told by sources that he accepted the job under the condition that he would be backed up when he did stable-cleaning. I dearly hope that’s true and if true that he gets the backing he needs.
While we had a larger number of priests ordained this year than was usual in recent years, for the first time in a century there are no new seminarians for St. John’s this year. I hope some reform and a clean house will change that.
