Happy New Year

Oliver North tells an anecdotal story in his autobiography. During the Iran-Contra hearings, reporters were camped at the end of his driveway every single day, out there at the crack of dawn every morning to capture him driving in and out. Easter, Fourth of July, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Every day ... except one: New Years Day. It seems they all took the day off because they were too hung over from the night before. I guess we know what holiday journalists hold sacred.

Anyway, this journalist will be taking New Years Day off, but not for the same reason. I’m heading out in a few minutes to go to my sister’s house in Maine. My brother and his family are already there. I like a low-key New Year’s celebration, and I’ve never thought of it as a big deal. I should be back on Friday. See you then.

Happy New Year everybody.
