Footing the bill

Footing the bill

A priest whose pastor was suspended for nine months, but reinstated in August wants the diocese to reimburse its costs. St. Charles Borromeo parish wants the Diocese of Manchester, NH, to pay it back its costs for hiring interim priests while the diocese investigated Fr. Paul Gregoire (who was eventually cleared.)

Excuse me, but why did the parish have to hire priests? Why didn’t the diocese assign priests to the parish and provide for the cost? Why should the people of one parish—who have done nothing wrong—have to foot the cost of a false allegation? The bishop—and by him the whole diocese—should bear that cost. It’s not fair to anyone to handle it this way.
