Everybody’s pope

UPI’s religion editor Uwe Siemon-Netto, a “righteous” non-Catholic, expresses his admiration for Pope John Paul, calling him “my pope”. He says that the Holy Father has alone “given voice to my faith and my values in 117 countries.” He also admires his personal holiness and steadfastness in the face of post-modernism.

Sure he doesn’t agree with him on everything, but then if he did Uwe wouldn’t be a Lutheran any more, would he? But even in his disagreements he grants the Pope some debating points.

Thank you, Uwe, for your heartfelt paean to our Holy Father. Now I would humbly suggest you truly make him your pope and come home to the Church. Then you’ll understand and be able to hold the faith that makes John Paul such a great man.
