D-Day

Today is the big day in Boston. This morning Fed-Ex will deliver a package to each parish in the archdiocese. Some will tell the parish it is closing, and others will tell it is staying open. Then the official list will be disclosed this afternoon at a 1 pm press conference.

We do know at least one of the parishes that is closing. St. Ignatius Parish, smack in the middle of Boston College, was added to the list of possible closures just last Thursday. Of course, it means that something’s going to happen. What it likely means is that Boston College will buy it for a couple million and make it what it essentially is already, a college chapel. That’s an easy decision for the archdiocese. The rest may not be so easy. We’ll have to wait and see.

The rest we’ll have to wait and see. I am a little surprised that nothing has leaked to the local newspapers. What that says to me is that Archbishop O’Malley has managed to cut off the usual suspects
