How would you like to make $50,000 to $12,000 per year working for an organization that doesn’t exist? That’s essentially the case with the employees of the non-existent New Bedford Oceanarium. The stalled project to build an aquarium in New Bedford, MA, spent $800,000 on payroll and benefits last year even though it hasn’t even broken ground after ten years in development. They raised $3 million of the $135 million needed and that money is what has been spent by the state taxpayers, probably on just salaries alone.
When we’re facing a billion dollars in budget shortfall in Massachusetts it’s time to cut this big, dead, smelly fish loose.
