A little bit country, a little bit rock’n'roll

The Dixie Chicks no longer want to be considered a country music band, but instead a rock and roll band. They say their feelings were hurt when the country fans and other country musicians didn’t give them any support after they stuck their feet in their mouths by criticizing President Bush in a foreign country. They said they did get support from rock musicians and so they want to be part of that community.

Excuse me, but isn’t the genre of your music dependent on what kind of music you play? If I play heavy metal but call myself an opera singer, it doesn’t make me an opera singer. Or maybe they plan on ditching country music and singing pop or rock. Well, good luck to them. I hope they sell lots of CDs, although I tend to dout it.

People like that tend to forget that it’s the fans who determine their success, not the other people in their professional community. Too bad. I liked the Dixie Chicks, but if they’re going to make some photocopy of the current pop/rock fad, I won’t be listening to them anymore.
