Be careful of handing expensive objects that you might not want to lose to foreign leaders.
New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft was in Russia last week for a meeting of business leaders when he met Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Putin admired the big Super Bowl ring on Kraft’s hand, a 4.94-carat ring with 124 diamonds worth up to $100,000. Kraft handed the ring over to Putin to see more closely and evidently Putin thought it was a gift and pocketed it. Oops!
Now Kraft is saying that he’s giving it as a gift to Putin rather than cause an international incident or embarassment. And of course, he’ll get himself a new ring. Must be nice to be rich.
