Wider application of the Indult, stricter guidelines for Mass

Inside the Vatican reports on its interview Cardinal Francis Arinze, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments regarding an upcoming document with stricter guidelines on the celebration of the Mass. It will also reportedly encourage far wider use of the Tridentine rite.

“We expect the document to be published before Christmas,” Arinze told “Inside the Vatican” in an exclusive interview. “We want to respond to the spiritual hunger and sorrow so many of the faithful have expressed to us because of liturgical celebrations that seemed irreverent and unworthy of true adoration of God. You might sum up our document with words that echo the final words of the Mass: ‘The do-it-yourself Mass is ended. Go in peace.’”

  • No, he means that the “make-it-up-as-you-go-along” Mass is now passe. Actually, I don’t think the 1962 rite violates the specifics of SC. Care to point them out?

I wish to clarifiy first, that I have never been to a Tridentine rite Mass and don’t feel any particular compulsion to do so, except out of curiousity. That’s not to say I don’t like Latin Masses. The Novus Ordo Latin Mass, when done correctly, is quite beautiful.
