What does Greeley know and when did he know it?

Matt Abott reprints a letter from an attorney who has been pushing Fr. Andrew Greeley to reveal what information he’s been holding back about an alleged child-abuse/murder ring in Chicago.

In your autobiographical books, ‘Confessions of a Parish Priest’ and ‘Furthermore! Memories of a Parish Priest,’ you clearly acknowledge that you know who they are:

“.....But even in Chicago, the ring of predators about whom I wrote in the paperback edition of ‘Confessions’ remains untouched. There is no evidence against them because no one has complained about them and none of their fellow priests have denounced them. Those who have been removed are for the most part lone offenders who lacked the skill to cover their tracks. The ring is much more clever. Perhaps they always will be. But should they slip, should they get caught, the previous scandals will seem trivial….”

Even while Greeley has been criticizing the bishops for obstructing justice and withholding information, he’s been doing the same. This attorney says she investigating the same matter and that if doesn’t come clean, she’ll find out what he’s hiding anyway.

Very interesting and disturbing.

  • Greeley may not have the sort of evidence that could stand up in court re these monsters, so public announcements may not be wise, but he certainly should tell the police!

  • Agreed, John Hearn.  That is what he should do.  Having followed some of this stuff, one gets the strong impression that there is great evil there.
