Bishop James Timlin of Scranton, Penn., has retired and is being replaced with Bishop Joseph Martino, auxiliary of Philadelphia, the Vatican announced today.
Bishop Timlin has had a controversial reign, with accusations that he turned a blind eye to sex abuse by members of a conservative order. I won’t make a representation as to whether I believe all the allegations. I’ll leave up to you to read the material and make your own decision.
In any case, I think everyone involved can look forward to leaving this problem behind and hope that Bishop Martino will do a genuine housecleaning.
