Three more bishops join the good fight

The bishops of Atlanta, Charlotte, and Charleston have joined the small band of brother bishops who have said pro-abortion politicians will be denied Communion. They are Archbishop John Donohue of Atlanta, Bishop Robert Baker of Charleston, and Bishop Peter Jugis of Charlotte. The others who have said they will refuse Communion to such politicians are Archbishop Raymond Burke of St. Louis, Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Bishop Robert Vasa of Baker City, Oregon.

Is this a trend? Will we see other bishops bend to the inevitable as they realize they were duped by Cardinal McCarrick and continue to receive pressure from faithful Catholics to live up to responsibility? I sure hope so. Maybe the one good thing about a Kerry presidential campaign could be if it forces the bishops to finally begin holding the line on the Church’s teachings.

  • Ok, Dom…..

I aquiesce.  While I have never formally disagreed with the position of Archbishop Burke, et al., I will now formally state that I agree with said position.

I am not saying that this is a done issue or that the realm of Cardinal McCarrick is wrong, but I am agreeing with the position of Archbishop Burke, et. al.

There is still a lot to be determined and there are a lot of nuances to still be figured, but I can accept said position.

However, even the most staunch of Canonists will say that in any particular See, it is the discretion of the Ordinary to administer said sanctions.  That we must be respectful of, even when we disagree with the statement, personally.

  • I am very please with the Archbishop of Atlanta’s statement.  I am a member of his diocese.

He has a mantle of being a conservative and his defense of the Faith in this case certainlly puts him in the minority with his brother bishops with in the US.

Quite frankley, I am waiting for it to hit the fan in the case of Cynthia Mckinney who is a former congressman(I will not say congresswoman) and now is running to regain her seat.

She is a pro-abort all of the way, not to mention that her contributions come from Islamists for the most part, and up until now, not a word has been said about her fitness to receive Holy Communion.

And since we are on the subject, how in the heck is Ted Kennedy even allowed inside a Catholic Church?

Boston does not only have a history of political corruption but of Ecclesiastical coruption also.  Rumors of Cardinal Cushing being in the pocket of the Kennedys.  Supposedly, Sir Richard arranged a bogus annulment for JFK.  What is up   with Boston?

Please excuse my ranting……sometimes I just can’t take it.
