Archbishop Tauran is afraid the war will increase the threat of terrorism. Seriously, does anyone think that the threat of terrorism would have decreased if we hadn’t attacked Iraq? According to this, we must have done something before 9/11 to have increased the threat of terrorism. What was it?
The fact is that by showing our strength—the only thing some of these thugs respect—we have probably decreased the threat of terrorism. Recall that in the early 1980s Libya sponsored several terrorist acts including the Berlin disco bombing and the downing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, as well as causing problems in the Gulf of Sidra with Khadafy’s line of death. But after we bombed Tripoli, including Moamar’s house, we haven’t heard a peep from him in over 15 years. After we’re finished in Iraq, I think the world as a whole will be a safer place.
